Georgia College
Study Abroad Process 

Overview
We are excited you have decided to begin the study abroad process.  As a Georgia College student, it’s important to note all Georgia College students planning to study abroad in any manner are required to first meet with Georgia College Study Abroad staff, follow and complete the Georgia College Study Abroad application process - and be approved by Georgia College. 

Deadlines apply, and all academic credits must be pre-approved during the application process.

GC Registration/Application Process

Email the study abroad office at the email listed below to set up an appointment.

  1. Send the email to: studyabroadinfo@GC.edu.

  2. You must include in this email a link to the program that interests you.

  3. An example email is as follows:

Dear GC Study Abroad Team, 

My name is [INSERT NAME] and I am interested in studying abroad.  I have researched programs and I am particularly interested in LeadAbroad’s [INSERT PROGRAM NAME] program for summer 2025.  The link to the LeadAbroad program I am interested in can be found here  [INSERT PROGRAM LINK]. I understand I am required to first meet with GC Study Abroad staff, follow and complete the GC Study Abroad application process - and be approved by Georgia College.  Please provide available times for our appointment at your earliest convenience.

  1. In order for your credits to transfer to Georgia College, you must complete the internal GC application. 

  2. After you have read this entire page here, select "Apply Now" at the bottom of this screen and follow the prompts for a GC Login.

  3. You will have two applications - one to LeadAbroad and and one for GC.

  4. The GC registration should be submitted no later than March 1 for Summer programs, and in sufficient time to meet LeadAbroad’s application deadlines.

  5. The GC online application has a required application fee, which can be paid via your GC online application once you are certain you will apply to the program.

Meet with a GC study abroad advisor. Bring or submit program information that includes responses to the following:

  • Before Departure
    Pre-departure support Online orientations Personal assistance Flight recommendations and/or group flights Parental communication On campus and/or virtual program meet-ups Private social media groups for introductions and roommate matching
  • On The Ground
    Housing Welcome celebration Final celebration Leadership & personal development workshops Cape Town city tour (includes attractions like District Six Museum, Signal Hill, community gardens & historic landmarks) Table Mountain hike Cape Point tour Boulders Beach tour Community engagement & service activity International medical insurance Airport bus transfers to/from program accommodations if arriving within group window 24/7 emergency support from U.S.-based domestic team
  • After You Return
    Resume assistance References for internships, grad school and/or jobs On-campus leadership & ambassador programs Private LinkedIn & Facebook networking groups Family (Alumni) events
  • Independent Costs
    Roundtrip airfare Most meals (Note: Student apartments have private, fully equipped kitchens) Free time excursions and transportation to independent activities Optional high-adrenaline adventures (for example: skydiving, bungee jumping, quad biking, etc)

After the initial meeting with the GC study abroad advisor, students will also be required to submit the following by the GC application deadline:

  1. The Georgia College course approval form, completed and signed by your GC academic advisors, department chairs, and others as indicated.

  2. Complete the GC Transient Permission Form because Oglethorpe University, LeadAbroad’s academic partner,  issues the transcript.

Once you have been approved by GC, submit your home university approval form (to be provided later).
