Tell me more about the professor.

Dr. Amanda Printz, aka Printz, has taught on LeadAbroad programs for the past 5 years. She is consistently rated as one of our top professors for her engaging lecture style and genuine passion for student learning. Her lectures are timely and relevant and she will challenge you to think critically about your views and leadership style in this course.  Printz is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. She received her PhD from the University of Southern California and served as the Academic Director on LEAD Greece and GO Rome programs.

How does the credit transfer back to my home university?

This course has the same listing with the Oglethorpe registrar as the courses taught on LEAD Cape Town and LEAD Greece. It can be listed on your transcript from Oglethorpe University as Urban Leadership studies, history, politics or sociology. Check with your university’s registrar to see if there is an established course equivalency for courses from Oglethorpe University. If not, reach out to your academic advisor. Here is the sample syllabus for this course.

Is the class live or recorded?

This course is about you – your strengths, vision and values. In order for it to be impactful, you need to be engaged.  Most of the course will happen live over Zoom. The course will also include breakout sessions, recorded videos and discussion boards. The more you put in, the more you will get out.

What are the projects like?

This course includes a variety of assignments including class participation, course reflections, personal vision paper, one sentence life stories and a final project. Each of these assignments is designed to challenge you to think critically about the leadership curriculum and apply it to your own life. The final project has two components. First, the analysis of a contemporary figure and why you think he/she is a model leader. Second, a discussion of your individual leadership approach and how you align and differ from the contemporary figure you chose for the first part.

What is the attendance policy?

LeadAbroad is committed to the academic integrity of our programs. All students participating in a course will be subject to academic and programmatic consequences for missing class. Excused absences are approved only if the student has a doctor’s note that includes the diagnosis and confirmation that the student needed to be seen immediately. Each unexcused absence will impact a student’s final grade in the course. In addition, if a student has 2 unexcused absences a notification will be sent to them and their emergency contact letting them know that they are on probation. If a student has 3 unexcused absences or 20% of the class the student will be dismissed and receive an automatic failing grade.

“What has stuck with me most is this newfound awareness that I have for the people around me, the world, and for myself”

– Dani Squire, Leadership in Action alumni

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I pay for an online internship?

This international internship allows you to develop your professional skills and stand out from the crowd when you apply for future roles.  This program is a way to learn transferable skills, gain real work experience and develop your professional brand. Unlike other internships where you are simply matched with an organization with no oversight or coaching, this program has personalized mentoring and real time feedback so you can develop more skills in less time. At the end, you will have 3 quality work products to add to your professional portfolio and LinkedIn profile.

What is an xperience and how does it differ from an internship?

An xperience is a term coined by our partner, Xperienceships. Their programs are focused on real world work experience to help you gain transferable skills and own your career. Internships often involve menial tasks and coffee runs so you are removed from the real business stakeholders. This program puts you in direct contact with the clients working on actual business challenges.

How much time do I need to commit to be successful?

The more you put in, the more you get out. We recommend a minimum of 4 hours per day. Typically, 2 hours will be with your coach to discuss the project, feedback and challenges and 2 hours will be working with your small group on your specific project. It is important to plan on investing significant time and energy in order to be successful in this program.

What majors are the best fit for this Xperience?

This Xperience is open to all majors. No matter what your course of study at your home university, you will gain real world business experience that applies to a variety of industries. This virtual experience is designed for college-age students who have an interest in marketing, public relations, communication and business.

Can I get a letter of recommendation?

Just like a traditional internship, your performance in the internship will determine the outcomes. We will be happy to write enthusiastic letters of recommendation for engaged, thoughtful and committed participants.

What does a sample project look like?

You will be completing real world client work focused on three different projects. The projects focus on storytelling, influencer strategy and visual communication. For each project, you will work with your small team to create your point of view and deliver a presentation to deliver to the clients.

How can I leverage this on my resume?

At the end of the Xperienceship, you will have three professional projects to add to your portfolio. We recommend that you post and share these on your LinkedIn profile and include a description of this experience on your resume. We will be happy to help coach you on how to add this unique professional experience to you resume!

What is the attendance policy?

Active participation is required in this Xperienceship. In order to get the most out of this, you need to be prepared to dive in, work hard and have an incredible professional experience. We understand that emergencies come up, but it’s important to be committed to the experienceship and the work.

“I cannot express enough how much this team changed my perspective on how I solve problems and what success for myself looks like. They challenged me to think about things in a different way than I was used to and helped me grow into an outside-of-the-box thinker. I am a post grad and two years into my career and I still think back on the lessons I learned from Andreu and Neil and use them in my everyday life!”

About LeadAbroad

LeadAbroad is an innovative, purpose-driven organization focused on leading transformative experiences at home and abroad. By leading transformative experiences, LeadAbroad believes we can change lives, impact communities and create a better world.

We know the power of moments; those moments that inspire you to dream the impossible, give more than you knew you could and contemplate your life’s purpose. Our experiences, coupled with a personal development curriculum, are uniquely designed to engage students wherever they are in life, expose them to new ideas and life-changing experiences and equip them with the tools to make a difference in their community and the world.

To meet students’ needs in the current environment, we’ve adapted our organization and paths for this summer. While we are hopeful we can return to offering transformative experiences abroad soon, we have heard from so many of our students that they are looking for a purposeful way to spend their time this summer. We’re excited to connect with students this summer – online.
