Itinerary

On GO Paris, you will live your best life while taking exciting courses, exploring the amazing culture of France and meeting friends from all over! You will get to live in the heart of the city near the Jardin de Luxembourg, Musee d’Orsay and Musee Rodin surrounded by cafes where you can search for the best crepe, baguette and espresso. GO Paris focuses on independent travel, cultural excursions and unique personal development opportunities to make this the best summer of your life.

GO Paris lasts for five weeks beginning in July through early August. You will enroll in two courses for a total of six credits from Oglethorpe University in the subject areas of communication or philosophy. With professors focused on creating unique classes that incorporate the local culture, you will have a chance to get to know them personally and dive into the classes and community.

The LeadAbroad team is on the ground to help welcome you to your new home. If you arrive in the group flight window, we will be at the airport to greet you. If you arrive outside that window, we will meet you at the accommodation to help you get settled in. Then we jump into an orientation to make sure you are well prepared to explore Paris and succeed on the program. On a typical week, classes run Monday through Thursday, giving you long weekends to explore. During the first weekend of the program, we will travel as a group on an overnight excursion to give you a chance to get to know your fellow LeadAbroad students. The remaining three weekends are up to you – stay in Paris to take in the amazing food, shopping and art, hop on a train to Provence, Marseille or the French Riviera or book a flight to explore another city in Europe. We also offer a variety of weekend trips if you prefer the comfort of going with a group. Either way, the LeadAbroad team is available to help you with travel arrangements for your long weekends.

While in Paris, you’ll also be able to enjoy a variety of optional cultural activities and weekly community club meetings. Our staff will help you make the most from your time in Paris, from cooking classes to market tours and art walks. The ‘city of lights’ is one of the world’s most popular destinations for a reason. Join us this summer for a fantastic study abroad experience on GO Paris.

“GO was exactly what I was looking for in a study abroad program and more. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to connect with and the program allowed students to either be completely independent or to have a little more structure. Europe has so many is an incredible places and seeing it this way is an irreplaceable experience.”

Courses

GO Paris courses span a variety of subjects including communications and philosophy. We travel with US-based faculty and all courses are taught in English. Our professors also incorporate the local culture into the classroom whether it is through site visits, readings by French authors or local examples.

During your study abroad experience in Paris, you will enroll for credit in two courses offered by Oglethorpe University. Below are the potential courses for this summer. When you apply, you will be asked to select your top four class choices, and we will do our best to meet your academic needs. And don’t forget that all classes typically run Monday to Thursday so, you have three-day weekends to augment your time abroad; please review your course syllabus and our newsletters for specifics.

All courses are tentative and subject to change.

Engagement

Our engagement model is the reason the GO programs are different from other France study abroad programs. Our team consists of a program director, faculty and peer leaders who will support you during every aspect of your international experience. We do not simply arrange your housing and classes; instead, the our team will focus on your academic, personal and cultural engagement to help you have the best experience possible.

The study abroad experience begins with academic rigor. To build upon this learning cornerstone, we infuse relevant in-class discussions, cultural field trips and meaningful conversations with faculty. Because our average class size is about 20 students, it’s easy to engage with the class material and your fellow students as you learn about business, communications, art or history.

Next, our unique study abroad model focuses on personal engagement through our weekly community environements. These innovative gatherings provide a safe forum for you to pause and reflect on all that you are experiencing abroad. Each week of the program will have a unique focus such as personal strengths or your vision for your life. Through these intentional conversations, our community environments is designed to provide a renewed sense of personal purpose and direction while also forging new friendships

Finally, cultural engagement is created by tours and activities planned by staff and students. In past summers, we have raced in the Color Run 5K, sat under the stars for an outdoor concert, hosted picnics underneath the Eiffel Tower and competed to find the best cafe in the city. Our residence director and peer leaders search for all of the coolest cultural events and make them accessible to our students. Or, if there is something that you want to do, let us know and we will help you accomplish it.

“GO was an amazing study abroad program that provided a great balance of school and free time to explore the city. This program was not only a great way to receive college credit in 5 weeks, but also a great way to learn about yourself and others.”

Flights

There are two ways to book your travel to Paris. First, you can reserve a seat on our group flight. This is a great way to get to know your fellow LeadAbroad travelers from the moment you depart the US. Traveling thousands of miles away from home is new and exciting so having familiar faces all around you makes the experience unforgettable. We will announce group flight details in the spring. If the flight is departing from a location other than your hometown, you will need to book your connecting flight independently to meet up with the group flight with a minimum 4-hour layover to connect. No need for any stress on the way to France.

You can also choose to book your flight on your own. We will provide a time window when you should arrive at the airport in Paris. If you arrive within the designated time frame, LeadAbroad staff will be at the airport to greet you with huge posters and even bigger smiles.

If you are traveling in Europe prior to the program, you can also meet us at the dorms to check in with the rest of the group!

Health & Safety

Your safety is our number one priority on all programs. With a triad staffing model including LeadAbroad residential directors, interns and Oglethorpe University faculty, we have one of the lowest student:staff ratios of any study abroad program. We execute safety procedures in France including assessment, education, security measures, ongoing monitoring and emergency response protocol. The LeadAbroad Policies, Terms & Conditions document outlines these policies in detail.

Barcelona sunset

We want every student to remain healthy on the program to ensure they enjoy their time in Paris. Though we are prepared to handle inevitable health issues, we certainly do not want you to miss out on the adventures and fun. Therefore, we combine pre-departure preparation with on the ground strategies to ensure our students are healthy and happy.

Prior to departure, every student will complete a detailed health questionnaire. We encourage you to visit your doctor and dentist to ensure that you are up to date on all vaccinations and have complete supply of prescriptions. We also include international medical insurance through TW Lord & Associates for all LeadAbroad students. It is important to note that this is different than trip protection or travel insurance. We will provide many more details on health and safety information in the student portal after you are accepted.
