Go Global is comprised of a team of active, young people who are committed to healthy lifestyles. Are you concerned about maintaining that bikini body in Greece? Is it important to you that on your trip to Cape Town, you’ll be able to stay true to your 6am daily workouts you’ve been doing at home? Are you nervous about slipping into a food coma and hibernating on your Italian adventure? The staff at Go Global is so healthy themselves, that they’re the perfect motivation you need to make healthy choices while abroad! Whether you began your commitment to a healthy lifestyle back home or you want to start while you’re abroad, Go Global executive team member Courtney Doran has plenty of advice for you…

Being Healthy Abroad
Guest Post by: Courtney Doran

Let’s be honest, when traveling, you don’t want to cheat yourself of the decadent food, hours in cafes, and exploring local markets, but you also don’t want to look like you regained your ‘Freshman 15’ – so what to do?

Work out. Find balance. Stay healthy.

Our staff travels every summer, and we have learned that without taking care of your bodies while abroad, we cheat ourselves of the full experience. Working out and eating well gives you energy, allows you to sleep better, and puts you in a better mood. This is obviously true at home or abroad, but while you are traveling, there are more distractions that can prevent you from prioritizing your health.

5 Tips for Being Healthy

  1. Drink water – bring a Nalgene with you and commit to drinking 2 per day
  2. Sleep – FOMO is real, but the nights you choose to go out will be more fun if you take care of yourself in between
  3. Don’t skip meals – pace yourself with food during the day; go to a local market and have healthy snacks in your room
  4. Workout – commit to at least 3 days a week of activity
  5. Limit alcohol intake – no explanation needed

3 Easy Workouts

You don’t need a lot of space or a lot of time to have a great workout! No excuses. Find a buddy (you are required to be with one on most programs anyways), put on some music, and burn some calories!

Workout 1:

  • Jog 4 mins
  • Sprint 1 min
  • Jog 3 mins

Workout 3: repeat 3x

Tag your activity! We want to see how you choose to be healthy abroad! #behealthyabroad

So what do you say? Will you join us on a mission to be healthy this summer? Those beaches are waiting for you … don’t miss out on getting in a good run, taking a walk, or getting your friends together early in the morning to do Courtney’s workouts before class! To let you in on a secret … the staff would love if you joined them in group workouts, too. It’s all on you — make it happen! …then indulge in some mind-blowing gelato.
