Matthew on Table Mountain

Matthew Jones, a junior at Auburn University, gives us a glimpse into his first impressions of beautiful Cape Town!  Check out his blog below!

I knew before even going into college that I wanted to go somewhere abroad. I attended a Study Abroad Fair that Auburn held mid-way into my freshman year and looked into many different organizations and locations, but when I spoke to Joanna about Go Global, I was hooked. After a conversation with Joanna and researching Go Global, I knew I wanted to go to Cape Town. I love being outdoors in nature and I love pushing my limits whether it be hiking or skydiving; so I knew Cape Town would be the perfect fit for me.

The first day I was there we went on a city tour of Cape Town where we saw some of the many wonderful sights Cape Town has to offer. We went through a museum that taught us about one of the racial struggles Cape Town faced, which surprisingly wasn’t too long ago. The tour guide gave us such in-depth information on something that I only read about in history books that had happened in his parents’ and grandparents’ lives. We also got to go to the top of Signal Point were we got to make some fantastic pictures and an amazing view of Cape Town. Already one of the best experiences of my life!
